 Slow Performance
There are a number of reasons why performance might not be up to par. Your DVD-ROM drive may not have DMA enabled. Performance could also be compromised based on your graphics subsystem. Software DVD performs best on a Intel Celeron 350MHz (or better) with HWMC cards and on a Pentium Celeron 450mhz (or better) without.

Reasonable performance should be expected on PII 300s with HWMC and PII 350s without.

 Solving slow performance
Accessing the Device Manager

Enable the DMA by going to the control panel and double click on the system icon. Highlight your DVD-ROM drive under the CD-ROM drive devices and click on properties. Enable DMA in the settings tab. Reboot your system.

If there is no DMA checkbox then you may have a motherboard that does not support DMA, or new drivers are needed to enable this support. Check with your motherboard manufacturer for the necessary drivers.

If performance is still slow then the problem might be in the graphics or audio subsystems. The AGP bus interface will perform up to 30% faster than those based on the PCI bus.
Audio subsystems based on the PCI bus will perform up to 15% faster than based on the ISA bus.
